Do you plan in advance?

Do you have a plan for 2021 yet? Of course not, it’s too early! But with just a month left of this year, when is it a good time to start planning 2021? And are you someone who will usually plan in advance, or are you more of a spontaneous, in the moment kind of person?

I think, as a business owner, it’s incredibly important that you get into the habit of planning ahead. Not only does it reduce stress, but it also helps increase your chances of success - and this is especially important if you’re looking to increase your prices in the year ahead.

Plan in advance to give yourself time to plan out your strategy

Because if you’re looking to hit a revenue goal, you need to know how you’re going to get there. It could mean you need to increase your prices, but it’s also about getting clear on what you have available and how many services you need to sell, to reach your revenue target.

Putting prices up takes time and care. You need to look at the structure of your business and the packages you offer. You need a clear understanding of your business costs, so you’re pricing in a way that covers them and ensuring you’re still making a healthy profit. And of course, you need time to give your customers adequate notice of any price increases.

Identify potential problems before they arise

When you plan in advance, you can foresee any issues you may have. You’re able to adapt to changes as you reassess the needs of your customers, the outsourcing help you may need, and any new resources or training you want to invest in, to help reach your financial goals.

Many business owners end up underpricing or overpricing their packages, simply because they didn’t take the time to plan ahead.

Planning in advance helps highlight potential opportunities

Clarity is one of the most significant benefits you can gain when you plan in advance. Clarity over your packages, your pricing, and potential opportunities that will help you reach your general and financial goals.

By taking the time to plan in advance, you’ll be able to ensure you have a clear plan to hit your revenue goals in 2021. But it isn’t just about being clear on your prices - it’s about setting your packages up right, so they fit the prices you need and cover your business costs.

And if you’re worried about a lack of spontaneity, don’t be! When you plan in advance, you can still be spontaneous - it just means you have your financial bases covered with your core plan. Everything else then becomes a bonus!
